Like its name implies, modified bitumen (or asphalt) roofs involve modifying asphalt with certain materials to make asphalt roofing more durable and long lasting. Modified bitumen is generally modified asphalt with a rubber (SBS) or plastic (APP) additive. This enhances the asphalt properties, creating high-performance roof membranes.
